The Religion of Stocks and Stones

Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:

They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:

They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.

Those who make them will be like them; yes, everyone who trusts in them. (Psalms 115: 4-8)

In the midst of all sufferings, poverty, sicknesses and problems, faith is the only hope that people counts on. It serves as light that shines through a path saturated in darkness and strength that empowers them in order to endure the afflictions of life. It is impossible to measure the depth and height of a man’s faith, neither question the works that come from it. But what if the faith which should bring a man to life, bring him nearest to death? This case happened many times at Quiapo and Tondo, two well-known places at the heart of Manila. Every year some people die and many are being hurt for faith during the celebration of Quiapo’s Feast of the Black Nazarene, while incidents of violence occurred in many places whenever Tondo celebrates its Feast of Santo Nino (or Feast of the Holy Child). According to the news;

MANILA, Philippines – Two people died of heart attack and 46 others were injured during Wednesday’s celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene, police said.At the same time, Police Director Geary Barias, National Capital Region Police Office chief, said they were verifying reports that a child also died during a stampede along Plaza Miranda where thousands of devotees had also converged.Cecilia Fajardo suffered from cardiac arrest after she was crushed by the crowd that tried to touch the black statue of Jesus while Alex Radovan, 44, died as he was on his way to Quiapo Church from where the Nazarene began its procession, said Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales, Manila Police District director.Police placed the number of devotees at 2.2 million.Of the injured, nine suffered from hypertension; three from low-blood pressure; five fainted; nine sustained bruises or were crushed by the crowd; and five suffered difficulty in breathing, said Rosales.They were brought either to the Ospital ng Maynila and Philippine General Hospital, he said.Radio reports said 22 people were brought to the Jose Reyes Memorial Hospital while another seven devotees were victims of pickpockets.A report on dzBB said at least seven devotees were victimized by pick-pockets during the feast.As of posting time, 16 ambulances are on stand-by, Rosales said.Earlier in the day, 19 private schools in the area cancelled classes while public schools did not, the Department of Education said in an advisory. Every time the Catholic Church celebrates the festivals of her idols, it won’t be happened without marks of violence within the place where it was celebrated. After the whole day of drinking, eating, dancing and all forms of merry making, what comes next is violence or bloodshed, thus, peace keeping officers become more alert during these celebrations. These are the fruits of a kind of faith abominable in the sight of God; faith that deceives the soul and lead man into perdition. The Holy Scriptures declared;

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. (Romans 1:21,22-25).

What profiteth the graven image that the maker thereof hath graven it; the molten image, and a teacher of lies, that the maker of his work trusteth therein, to make dumb idols? (Habacuc 2:18)

Every Sunday, thousands upon thousands of people are flocking in the churches around the world to bow down and worship graven images; images of persons invented from the imaginations of idol makers. They were adorned with fabulous dresses of many colors decked with gold, silvers and several kinds of ornaments. Being carried by their worshipers in processions followed by a battalion of a well-practiced band. People sing praises for them while the door of the church awaits their entrance. But behind the fabulous adornment of these idols lies a certain truth written in the Holy Scriptures;

(Psalms 115: 4-7)

They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house. He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it.Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire:And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god. (Isaiah 44:9,13-17)

In the book of Jeremiah, the Lord said;

Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us. (Jeremiah 2:27)

Have you noticed the similarities of this statement with what happens today in the Catholic Church? Worshipers cry before the wood, “Papa Jesus!”, or “Papa Joseph!”, and to the stones of grotto, “Mama Mary!” How come that the stone and stock met together and brought them forth that they call these things “Mama” and “Papa”? That’s so much ridiculous! And they don’t know how absurd it is! These are the consequences of a religion that bow down before an object that was senseless in its nature and without any ability to  comprehend anything surrounding it. It doesn’t even have the ability to save itself , so how it will save its worshipers? In fact, when the floating pagoda sunk in the middle of the Angat River in Bulacan during the 1993 celebration of the river festival of the Holy Cross, the idol remain smiling while 500 people are being drowned in the river. The Bible says;

For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good. (Jeremiah 10:3-5)

The system of idolatry in the Catholic Church has gone too far. As the knowledge of man rapidly increase, the knowledge of sin and the forms of idolatry is going more and more vile in the sight of God. Idols made up of plastic, rubber, cloth, and even the simplest materials in earth like wax and paints are now already existing and being bowed down by people. Idolaters will draw a simple cross upon a plain wall and light candles in front of it, then its all ready for worship. And the worst is the they worshiping even the remains of the deceased like skull, bones, teeth and garments. They pray before them and kiss their caskets, with the hope that they will be healed miraculously from their diseases – works that are certainly abominable in the sight of God. The law of Christianity is this;

Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: (I Peter 4:1-3)

If we are following Christ in truth, we must stop from practicing idolatry in all forms.
