Temple of the Spirit

“See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.” (Deuteronomy 32:39)

According to some teachers of religion, the physical health of man has nothing to do with the teachings of the gospel. Since the gospel is focusing on the spiritual aspect of the soul, health, as a physical aspect of a person, has no relevance to the teachings of Spirituality. Because of this teaching, Christians are becoming ignorant about those precious truths of the Bible that give advices and warnings beneficial to the physical necessities of the soul.

If we will read carefully and understand the word of God, we will see that God has a great emphasis for the health of his creatures. As a Father who always seeking good for his children, God gave a great concern to our health. In fact, man’s health is a very important part of the eternal gospel.

The Bible said,

“And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to Preach unto Plural that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and Kindred, and tongue, and people,

Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and GIVE GLORY TO HIM: for the hour of His judgment is come: and worship Him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. ” (Revelations 14:6-7)

One of the requirements of the everlasting gospel is to give glory to the Great Creator, whereof the Apostle Paul gave an explanation;

“What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost Which is in you, Which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, Which are God’s “. 1.Corinthians 6:19,20

During the creation, God created the human body and instituted all its laws and functions. He  gave him life which is full, perfect, without pain, without disease, and without end.

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” (Genesis 1:26)

Man is the masterpiece of God; the crowning work of the Creator, therefore by taking care of this precious creation, we’re giving God the glory that the gospel demands. But because of sin and disobedience, man’s precious body which should be for the glory of his Creator fell in disease and weaknesses. Diseases are result of disobedience and negligence to what God has given to us. Scriptures declared: “Sin no more lest a worse thing come upon thee.” John 5:14. If there’s no sin, there will be no any shadow of decease. Thus, Jesus came to  the world, not just to redeem us from sins, but to heal all our diseases and restore our fullness. Psalm 103:3, 4. The work of Christ is not just to heal our wounded spirit, but also to heal our affected body. The healing of spirit also heals our physical defects. In the book of Isaiah, it says, “I am sick; the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity.” Isaiah 33:24.

Being a true physician is a calling from God to cooperate with Him in His great work of restoring mankind, and as ministers of the Great Healer, we should help to root out the causes of human deceases; roots that caused by man’s violation of God’s law to their body. And the divine way of healing man’s defects, both physical and spiritual, is of course to teach the people to obey both the spiritual and physical laws given by the Creator.

Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted. Their soul abhorreth all manner of food; and they draw near unto the gates of death. Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble, and He sendeth His Word and healeth them.” (Psalm 107:17-20, R.V.)

The “word” which He “sendeth” and by which He “healeth” them must contain as its chief element instruction to cure them of their foolishness and transgressions, by calling for repentance and future obedience. The “word” by which He “healeth” them says , “Ye are the temple of God, and the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. If any man destroyeth the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy.” (1 Corinthians 3:16, 17); and, “Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which ye have from God, and ye are not your own; for ye were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.” (I Corinthians 6:19, 20); and, “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” (I Corinthians 10:31); and, “Eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness.” (Ecclesiastes 10:17); and, “Every herb yielding seed …. and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food.” (Genesis 1:29, R.V.) This kind of “words” is better than treatment of medicine.

The basic lesson in medical science is to learn the will of the Creator for our body. As Creator, He is the only source of all the strength both in spirit and in physical.  Thus, people of medicine, whether physical doctor or a preacher of the gospel, should always base their profession upon the words of God, because as God said;

“See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.” (Deuteronomy 32:39)
